Q: What is the difference between "Off the Shelf" software and "Custom" software? A: "Off the shelf" software, which is also referred to as "shrink wrapped" software, is somewhat self contained, meaning it has a set of functions that cannot be modified to suit specific needs. This software has to be used as it was designed to be used and may or may not be able to interface with other external systems. "Custom" software is usually more expensive, but is custom built or modified to the client's specific needs. Many large industries use custom software almost exclusively so they can be assured that they will have systems that do exactly what they want, how they want it and can be modified to interface with existing as well as future external systems. Q: What is the difference between the Network Licenses and the Open Source Code? If I buy the open source, do I need licenses as well? A: In the user license version, the code is locked down, meaning that the purchaser of this software cannot modify it in any way. The more users you would like to concurrently connect to the data file, the more user licenses you need. The Open Source version exposes the source code, allowing the purchaser of the software the ability to modify the program, creating reports, forms and interfaces to any legacy or future systems in the oranization. The open source version is considered an "Enterprise License" meaning no further user licenses are required. Q: If I purchase this product, will I get free upgrades? A: Yes. If you purchase this program, you will be given a free upgrade to this program in it's new form within the current release number (the first number in the version). You will also receive updates in the form of any bug fixes, or new reporting capabilities as they are developed. Q: How do I know this program will give me what I want? A: There is a 60 day evaluation version of this software. You can download this evaluation version in the "Downloads" section of this website. Q: How can I get more answers if you haven't answered my questions here?
